I had initially concluded that this bird was a hybrid Ross's Goose x Snow Goose. I thought that it's bill length was a little bit too long for Ross's Goose, and that this combined with the somewhat concave intersection of it's lateral bill and face indicated hybridization. However, I was unsure because I am insufficiently familiar with the range of variation in either species to know just how far "off" either one of these characteristics can be in a non-hybridized Ross's Goose. I requested advise from individuals more knowledgable about the range of variation in these geese and learned that this bird's characteristics were within the range of variation for Ross's Goose. I am therefore chalking it up to a learning experience and changing the i.d. to Ross's Goose.
