Census of nocturnal roost of American Crows in Portland, Oregon. Census includes both the downtown core area (south of Burnside to the 405 freeway), and the Pearl (north of Burnside to the 405 freeway). Approximately 2,500 more crows were found in the Pearl than in the downtown core. This is a dramatic shift in location from the census on January 23, 2024, when only 20 of the over 22,000 roosting crows were in the Pearl. The crows were distributed across an extremely wide area, including 301 square blocks in the combined areas. An additional notable change in this census is that nearly all the crows were roosting over streets whereas over 25% of the crows in the January census were over the grassy areas of the waterfront. NOTE: the mobile eBird application stopped tracking when I transitioned north across Burnside so there is no tracking for the Pearl on the eBird map. The time and distance for this entry accurately reflect the full area covered.
