Continuing bird next to pier. When I first arrived, it hadn't been seen for 15 minutes. Thirty minutes later, with nearly a dozen birders scanning the surrounding water, it suddenly appeared right next to the pier. I have no idea where it came from but was thrilled it came back. It was still present when I left half an hour and lots of photos and videos later. At one point, it went through a wave, completely underwater, and came out the other side as though nothing had happened. Mostly fluttering above the waves, dipping its toes in, but occasionally would sit on the water with its wings spread, foraging something. It sometimes flew under the pier and appeared completely unperturbed by the fishermen, dogs, swimmers, and birders around. Indeed, one young swimmer I overheard bragging to another that he'd swum underneath the water and touched its feet when it touched on the water, although I'm not sure how true that story is!
