Smaller size, more rounded head and thinner, more pointed bill compared to adjacent RBGUs.
観察結果の詳細
Third state record, first for eastern MO. Found yesterday by Bill Rowe on the IL side of the lock and dam, then relocated by him this afternoon in Ellis Bay. Smaller than adjacent RBGUs, with a gray mantle and splotchy, smudgy brown appearance as suggested in the Sibley guide for a first winter bird. Small bill with a dark tip, long brown primaries and pinkish/gray legs. Initially seen standing or loafing on the ice, then relocated some thirty minutes later having flown 100 yards east. Underwing in flight was pale brown. Caught one small fish, which it lost to a RBGU. St. Charles County #300 for me. PMcK notes: "At times standing adjacent to RBGU- noticeably smaller and less bulky than RBGU with a more rounded head and with a thinner, more pointed bill; lower 3/4 of bill pale with outer 1/4 dark tipped. Overall a darkish gull with mixture of blotchy brown and gray; darkest on sides of belly; back with large patch of medium gray on back; dirty white patch below eye and base of bill surrounded by a blotchy brownish gray; another smaller dirty white patch near crown; wing coverts with buff edges; tail all dark, upper tail coverts hard to see but appeared dark barred; wing tips dark- when open in spread wing primaries show darker outer webbing and lighter inner webbing similar to Thayer's Gull form of Iceland Gull; feet grayish pink, When compared to RBGU, the smaller, less bulky size with more rounded head and thinner, more pointed bill gave the bird and overall petite look"
