sub-adult plumage. we watched this bird flush a flock of Ring-billed Gulls roosting on the shoreline below the dam. then, surprisingly, it caught one of the gulls and carried it to a large tree nearby. I took photos of it with my cell phone while it was holding the gull in the tree. I've seen Bald Eagles catch a lot of fish, coots and the occasional duck but NEVER have I seen one catch a gull.
