Continuing; returned to winter and discovered by Kevin L (9/4/23). Thank you, Kevin!! :)) Additional thanks to Chezy Y for her coordinates, assisting us in re-finding it. Thank you, Chezy!! :)) Similar-looking to the Black-bellied Plovers it was associating with, but smaller, and sandy-golden overall with gold speckling on its back; light supercilium; and lacked the black armpits when seen in flight (noted by Steve). 1310 – Immediately upon arrival, Steve saw it flying across the Creek to the northern shoreline, in the same general area Chezy reported it (11/11/23) a little east from here (33.976350, -118.430697). Observed foraging along the shoreline with BBPL. Excellent views via scope before Becky and I relocated to try to get a closer look for photos, but lost sight of it along the shoreline as Plovers started to fly west. 1328 – About to give up, Becky amazingly re-found it with the scope on a little “island” of leaves and debris in the shallow water. Later made its way, foraging along the edge of a sandbar of gulls, briefly passing a BBPL, allowing us to see their size disparity. **Scope is not necessary, but definitely makes your arms and your life easier ...
