Same bird from the morning but with much improved documentation. This must be the skulkiest House Wren I have ever encountered and was very difficult to see as it moved through dense rabbitbrush and dried tumble weed/Russian thistle. Fortunately it is somewhat vocal. After finishing up at Pleasant Valley Reservoir, we headed back towards the wren location and again encountered it, this time on the south side of the road immediately east of/below the high tension power line. Again heard giving short spurts of distinctive bubbly calls. Carl then spent 30 minutes stalking it, obtaining audio, and attempting photos which may not turn out to be usable. A small brown bird with size and behavior mouse like, tail shorter (relative to body) than Bewick’s but much longer than Pacific and not prone to cocking. Rather plain with contrasting dark/paler barring on wings and tail, short indistinct supercillium, otherwise plain brown body. Just glimpsed a few times. Additional recordings TBA.
