Extremely large appearing falcon. Appeared longer and bulkier than Red-tail that landed on same power pole. Very broad tail and photo that lead us believe the closed wings fell far short of the tail led us to be very hopeful of Gyr. However, further review seems to suggest wingtips shorter than tail yet closer than we first thought. Very experienced observer heard it scream 5 or 6 times presumably at the nearby Red-tail and is convinced the call was much more Gyr-like than Peregrine. Bright yellow feet, gray bill. Extremely dark, full hood more hooded appearance than any Gyr photos I've seen but also more hooded than the darkest Peale's photos I've seen yet. Buffy ground color behind the extreme dark belly smudging said to suggest Peregrine. Super cool bird regardless. Locals will be looking to refind and get some more pics.
