Presumed first cycle larger than RIng-billed gull which immediately stuck out due to light, frosty, even coloration on head, neck, and underparts. Light upperparts including finely and neatly patterned scapulars and coverts which appeared they could be juvenile. Fairly round head leading to a softer, daintier look with a bicolored beak which lacked a significant gonys. Tertials with light and patterned tips but surprisingly dark centers a bit lighter than the primaries. Black primaries showing thin light edges toward the tips appearing as chevrons. From the front this bird appeared as if it could be Iceland. However dark contrasting tertials and primaries were nowhere near the realm of Kumlein's and dark for Thayer's and neatly bicolored beak is off for Thayer's. Tertials and primaries also were greatly contrasting despite the edging and tips. Ruben got a look at a light underwing and possibly a Venetian blind pattern and later when all the birds lifted off I got on a bird which appeared to have a starkly contrasting venetian blind pattern. Possibly just some type of light first cycle herring variant but interesting bird regardless.
