Size compare: Killdeer (left), Arctic Tern (right)

*State Rarity- Along the Rush Rd side of pond berm, a white bird was noted flying directly above vehicle immediately by my mother Marilyn Snell. This bird was flying over the pond and cleared the berm (you can't see the pond from this location) so her initial sighting was paramount. The tern actually "disappeared" in the clouds and was able to relocate a short time later. Photos taken using a Canon Powershot SX40. First cycle tern with short legs, when at rest it was larger than a nearby Killdeer. Flattened crown. Please see photos for other distinguishing marks. The carpal wing bar was not as highly contrasting like a first cycle Common Tern has. Wing primaries were slightly dark only along the edges.
