After about 20 minutes this bird started vocalising and instantly drew my attention sounding pretty spot on for a Yellow-browed Warbler calling. I quickly walked closer and whipped my phone out for a recording. A good move as after less than minute, it stopped calling and I was unable to locate the bird. Listening back and looking at the recording on my computer, a couple of things are perhaps not quite perfect for YBW, other than it being August in the Pacific North-west. Call phrases are a touch short in duration and pitch is perhaps a couple of hundred Hz to low. I still need to measure these to confirm that though. Shape of the sonogram is a scarily perfect match though and somewhat confirms that I'm not hearing things. Consulting with others, a variation in Hutton's Vireo song is perhaps the most likely culprit but I'm just not sure so leaving as passerine sp for now. This is the most similar recording I've found: ML534102821. Would never have expected a vireo and phyllosc to be confusion species!
