NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 16. Bulk reel: 37 203 tape. *Birds not seen but the song is so typical that I think there is no question about identification. Two-figure succession (some heard faintly at end of Cut 52 of M. ruficollis and some had been heard a few minutes before that, all quite distant. Quality: 3. Level: +5. During few minutes lapse while I tried to move closer, song changed (or maybe another bird). (I think it's probably the same.) Recorded part begins with three-figure phrases but then four-figure phrases are mixed in. Quality: 2-3. Level: +5. Quality: 2. Level: +5. Then after a few minutes (in real time) two birds are heard. This may be a conflict or it may be a male-female duet. Quality: 2-3. Level: +5. Quality: 2. Level: +5. Note: A few minutes after above song ended I played two times the "field tape" of M. gilvicollis. This brought no apparent reactioin; birds were heard singing farther away (maybe they didn't hear the playback or maybe they moved away). Also tried female M. ruficollis tape with no reaction. Response to playback: No response.
