Finally after 9 attempts I was rewarded with a brief view of this beautiful bird. I was able to get a doc photo. This elegant and graceful bird had a bulkier body than I anticipated making its small head seem quite disproportionate. Behaviorally, I noted that the bird bobbed its head at times, which I have seen other shorebirds, like the Greater Yellowlegs, also do. When the bird flew off I was a bit surprised not to hear a flight call, which is often made by shorebirds when taking flight. My stops at this location are always brief and I don't linger at a stationary position, so as not to attract the attention of the airport security personnel. With binoculars around my neck and a compact digital zoom camera in hand I walk about a 1/4 mile in one direction turn around and walk a 1/4 mile back, then leave. Remaining stationary with a spotting scope or tripod mounted camera trained on the airfield is bound to illicit an unpleasant encounter with Hansom's security folks and possibly state and local police.
