**Rare. Immature first appeared at 5:50, gliding down to pick something from the lake. It appeared several more times doing similar things, including landing on the CA side. Documentation has been sent to the Arizona Bird Committee as of 24 May. Large gull, but not as bulky as Herring. For a bigger gull, the wings were relatively thin and tapered. The most obvious feature on it was the bright white uppertail coverts and base of tail. There was also a very thin white terminal band after a thicker dark band through the middle of the tail. The bird's topside was dark, with the mottled mantle appearing a cold grayish or brown depending on the lighting (not slate gray of adult or subadult, though). Unlike Herring, there were no obvious pale primary windows. The bird's head was nearly white, with a solid dark bill that was proportionally fairly small. The underparts were pale, too, with video showing some streaking on the chest sides. One thing I noticed when it sat on the water was that the crossed wingtips extended far past the tail (I think Yellow-footed has somewhat shorter wings proportionally). California Gull should have shown at least a partly pinkish bill and no white uppertail coverts.
