Continuing bird, found April 20 by Nick Saunders and Guy Wapple. I arrived at around 8:00 pm and spent about 45 minutes wandering the track and trails on the Centre's property. At 8:45 I was walking back up the main track towards the gate. About 75m north of the gate I rounded a corner and saw two shapes on the road. Looking through my bins, one was a Cottontail, the other was the American Woodcock. They were quite close together, but the Woodcock would flutter away when the rabbit approached too closely. The bird was a plump, snipe-like shorebird, with a very long bill, eye located towards the back of the skull and mottled brown plumage with notable darker speckling along the scapulars. After observing it for about 5 minutes it began to make its loud "peent" call from the road. After calling several times it took off began its twittering aerial courtship flight. Audio of call recorded with iPhone.
