Originally found by Jon Feenstra on 1 Jul, re-found by Mark and Janet Scheel this morning. It was re-found again by the Gillilands shortly after I arrived, initially in the tamarisks just west of the porta-potty on C-dike, but thereafter in the cottonwoods and willows east of the porta-potty, either immediately along the south edge of the dike, or in the couple of isolated trees just to the south. This bird spent most of the time perched motionless in the trees, occasionally foraging or flying to another group of trees (usually having been flushed). This bird was similar in size to a grackle, but with a long, graduated (but unkeeled) tail, a slender bill of moderate length, and a rather slender body. The crown and upper parts were a warm medium brown, while the throat and under parts were white; there were also large white spots at the tips of the tail feathers, which were otherwise brown in color. The bill was primarily yellow, with the distal half of the upper mandible being dark or blackish. It was silent the entire time we observed it.
