Pics/vid/recordings. (33.7009048, -114.4979158). Big scrub jay, heard the jays call and realized it was rare so I drove over and got out and it was perched up in a bush near the river. Very responsive to WOSJ calls. The calls were not as bright and electric as CASJ calls. I got recordings of the “jay!!” call as well as the “cha-cha-cha-cha-cha!” call as it flew over. From reading afterwards the WOSJ call tends to be more disyllabic rather than more of a single syllable call for CASJ, which the spectrogram looks good for more of a 2 syllable call rather than one. Blue crown/wings/tail, black face with thin white eyebrow, big black bill, gray below with whiter streaked throat, slight blue breast band but not as bright or bold as CASJ. I believe Woodhouse’s is more expected here? At least compared to california. In the field did not compare back vs underparts contrast. From looking at the pics afterwards also in the pics when the bird is sitting in the mesquite you can see the blue undertail coverts.
