Continuing. Found it at about 0802 pretty much right at the hotspot marker. I had been focusing most of the morning at the area past the bend, but decided to walk to the car and back to check the other locations and was pishing at some juncos when the wren responded to the pish call a few times. I could not get a recording at first it would be totally silent for the most part, only called twice when I pished at the juncos and again maybe 5 minutes later. It seemed to be moving back east/south towards the bend in the canal, so I moved back that way and heard it calling 3 more times. All three times it seemed to respond to me stopping right across from it as maybe a little alarm call and was not really responsive at all to pishing. Never could see it, and it moved surprisingly quickly through the very thick brush on the opposite side of the canal. This might be a good tip to find the bird if it's silent: just walking and stopping suddenly every 15-20' and seeing if it calls at you in response to the sudden stop. Didn't really call at me when I was walking by, just when I stopped near it. Finally able to get a recording at around 820. After spending 1.5 hours there and only hearing it very briefly 5-6 times I didn't bother trying to get a visual as the brush is just so dang thick and the bird is very secretive and quiet. A tapaculo PAWR.
