***First for St. Louis Circle/St. Louis County, and 3rd Missouri Record*** - Apparently present since October. - Female, came into feeders 4 times while I was present (3 at closest feeder and once at most distant feeder). Also sat in bush for some time. All views within 15-25 yards. - Appears to have missing P7 on both sides (see photos, video), but you can see new P7 is coming in (also as shown in photos). - Pumped tail constantly when feeding/hovering. - Bill long and slightly downcurved. No RTHU nearby for comparison (of course), which would have a slightly shorter and straighter bill. - Briefly heard calling (maybe 30 seconds). - In all views of birds perched, the primaries fall even with tail or are just barely beyond (see photos), RTHU tail would be clearly longer. - While hovering, buffy armpits/flanks seen well. - Gorget all white. No red/black feathers observed. - Gray crown and auriculars blend into white throat. Not as sharply defined as in RTHU. - Photos show P10 (most outer primary) to be broad, curveed, and club shaped. Would taper to a narrow rounded tip in RTHU. - Spread wing shots show all primaries to graduate in width from broadest to narrowest going inner to outer.
