lifer for tss! and a very cooperative bird. We walked down the road trying playback. We had a sudden sustained bout of song when we reached a streambed in a gully densely but rather narrowly lined with bushes, with scattered trees. The stream was dry, and the streambed was filled with rocks. I initially tried to get a recording, but I was not fully familiar with the recording unit that Jay McGowan had loaned me (just yesterday evening!), and I couldn't get it up and running in time. At that point I started more playback to lure it into view. After a tense few minutes, it hopped into the open and sang on a branch overhanging the streambed. I finally figured out the error message on the recorder, but from that point on it sang only very infrequently. Otherwise it remained very responsive to playback, and often popped into the open in the streambed directly below us. After about 30 minutes of this frequent use of playback, a second bird started singing from farther upstream; and there even may have been a third bird farther down the road.
