Calling in defense of nesting territory. Feeding on surface of the lake. ML: Most of this sounds to me like the burry calls of Larus philadephia NOT L. canus, but the latter species probably does account for the more typical, gull-like calls in the background. I believe that the calls at 0:345-0:365 and 0:515-0:53 are comparable to the "kia" or "kiaa-kiaa" Alarm-Calls of L. canus, as described and shown in Figure II of Cramp et al. (1983. Handbook of the birds of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa: the birds of the Western Palearctic. Vol. III. Oxford University Press, Oxford), but these do not appear to be comparable to the Alarm Calls of BNA (which more closely match the Anxiety-Calls of BWP). It appears that no comparable call is described in BNA account. (CAM - 15 April 2005). Number of individuals=AM10+AF10+;. Habitat: Lake. Focal species changed from Larus brachyrhynchus to Larus philadephia, given the notes above. Tayler Brooks 27 March 2024.
