Continuing bird in the ABA's Hot Limpkin Summer. Wading bird unmistakable for any of the usual expected species. Size closest to an ibis, but overall coloration is brown, with heavily white streaked head and neck, transitioning to white spots on brown on the body, and solid brown rump and tail. Bill, while also decurved, seems heavier, though this may be because it being yellow (with a black tip) it appears wider than the ibis's black bill. Long feet and toes gives it a gait that at times appears clumsily and inelegant. But perhaps this is just because of closer observation of this bird. Gives low grunting noise, presumably alarm note. But not overly skittish (I was only observer), except when it was surprised after a break when I appeared on the boardwalk above it (I had stopped tracking it at that point). Really great encounter. Highlights of the 165+ photos later.
