Found just before 10:30 after the peak of the lower high tide (4.32' at 9:47). Alerted to its presence by its PAGP-like whistle. Adult in alternate plumage along south shoreline (viewable from kayak only). Moved near to northwest corner of site at the west marsh basin entrance channel, then flew southeast towards the Saltworks north shore mudflats (also restricted access) as the tide went out. Re-found later that afternoon around 18:00 on a rising tide (7.76' at 20:45) back on the south shore near Wilson the volleyball. The bird was present 12-16 July (Tue-Sat). I saw the bird on several occasions on Tue the 12th, Wed the 13th, and Fri the 15th. It was looked for the 17th through the 19th (Sun-Tue) but not seen. This was the first San Diego County record and only the second California record. The first state record (also of a fall migrant adult) was at the Lancaster sewage ponds in inland Los Angeles County on 23 July 1981. Another migrant adult was in British Columbia 23-26 June 2020.
