AMAZING!! I have been searching the trails here at Weston Bend for around a decade in hopes of turning up a Connecticut Warbler. Heard from the paved bike loop at (39.3846240, -94.8742209). There’s a yellow sign with a warning for cyclists about steep grades and sharp curves. Past this sign maybe 150yds into the forest is where this bird was singing regularly while I sat listening for about 15 minutes (there’s also an aggressive male Mourning Warbler in the area). I eventually was able to get fantastic looks of this bird, as it was singing unobscured from bare branches at about 10-15 feet in height. The bird went silent and eventually noticed me, and slowly approached by short flights and walking slowly along branches. What an absolutely incredibly experience! Photos and audio to follow. Chunky, large warbler yellow below with grayish head and large white eyering. Very long undertail coverts extending near end of tail, accentuating the chunky appearance. Regularly singing “beecher betcha Beecher betcha” song.
