観察結果の詳細
Observed 2 males in a struggle. Our initial observation suggested only one individual (photo 1); a periodic 'tensing' of the bird was curious, so on closer inspection a second bird was observed to be tightly pinned to the ground. Our impression is that the visible bird was waiting for the other to expire, but the extent of it's injuries (if any) was unclear. A struggle ensued at one point (photos 2 & 3) until the victim was subdued again. After about 10 minutes the aggressor flew off; we did not intend to scare it off, but may have. The other bird remained basically motionless (but with a pulse) in an awkward position (photo 5), apparently not frightened by our approach - or was unable to fly. After another 10 minutes, when approached at close range with another camera, it flew off without appearing to be injured. Note that only 2 male RTHU have recently been observed at this site, where 3 feeders are available.
