A mystery that has bugged me for years. A very large brown skulking warbler seen poorly but recorded singing and calling. At the time I had no experience at all with the various options and assumed based on the size it had to be one of the large Acrocephalus. But as the voice didn't match and I didn't know of any other options it sat unidentified. I was looking through my Japan recordings on 7 April 2022 and happened upon the mystery recordings, and listening to them with the benefit of experience I recognized it as one of the large "Locustella" species. The song seems to match Sakhalin better than Gray's, with a slower delivery, and without a faster and higher flourish at the end of the strophes.
