Long-billed Dowitcher at West End Marina - Dec. 2, 2016
観察結果の詳細
Basic-plumaged bird on sandbar in WE2 Marina with mixed shorebird flock. Face and upper breast dark gray, darker than SBDO. When bird was facing the observer, there was a good demarcation between dark upper breast and white lower breast. Breast appeared unmarked, but markings can be difficult to see in field. Barring on flanks of bird were even and broad, similar in color to LBDO's dark gray head and upper breast. SBDO's flank markings typically narrower and more irregular in shape. Additionally, flanks markings on SBDO usually darker than upper breast color. Other field marks that are helpful, but not diagnostic, included the long bill, that was probably still in the range of long-billed SBDO's. While the bird was preening the dark tail bands were seen to be wider than the white bands. However, some individuals in the SBDO Atlantic coast population may also have this pattern (Paulson, 2005). Winter-plumaged SBDO photo included for comparison.
