This is a federally restricted area of Eagle Island, with clearance for birding only during annual CBC. Found during Wilmington CBC by group covering Eagle Island (Steve Pollock, Ron Clark, Taylor Piephoff). Located in one of the dry dredge ponds of a federally restricted area of Eagle Island. Bird was actively feeding and pumping tail in mudflat along edge of vegetation. Mostly clear white face, lacking eyeline; black crown with gray nape and back, minimal white in wingbar, ruling out “baicalensis”; black bib to white throat, long black tail with white outer retricies. Discussion among small group of observers was to “alba” subspecies (which prompted a great learning experience for me to dig further into subspecies info) **Edit: This individual has a diagnostic spot on left side of face. Seems more like avian pox or something similar, rather than feather staining. May be distinguishing factor for detecting movement if located elsewhere.
