NOTES: (Behav. Context: annoyance; Species Sound: Constant; Sound Delivery Rate: High; General Climate: Cyclic wet-dry; Cover Den: Open; Format: 1/2 TRK MONO; Noise Reduction: Dolby B 1C; Bias: metallic; Equalization Type IV,70US) To-8db. I observed these birds for entire time of taping. They made several peculiar sounds, all from this species. Identification from members of party who had been here before. Ben Coffey, from the tape, believes it to be a Sand-colored Nighthawk. However, these were large, plover-like birds, not squat, nighthawk types. Bird is not on the Coffey or Parker tapes or in de Schauensee's "Birds of Colombia". LNS: Subject changed from Vanellus sp. to Vanellus cayanus based on recordist's announcement of Pied Lapwing. -Matt Medler, 16 June 2011. Other Behaviors: Establish Flock Contact, Emit Alarm. Habitat: Freshwater, Rainforest, Evergreen Forest, Deciduous Forest, River, Riparian, Beach, Sand.
