We were first alerted to this bird’s presence by its distinctive call note that is a little lengthier in duration than most warblers and has a distinct down pitched curve to it. This was a first fall bird, perhaps a female, immaculate in its plumage. It had a bold white eyering, pale gray throat, white below with a very soft wash of yellow in the vent, and white undertail coverts. The top of the head and back were a brilliant yellow-green when sunlit. Its wingbars were creamy yellow that almost seemed to glow, contrasting greatly with the dark wings. It moved very quickly in the low willows along the ditch near the children’s playground and quickly moved up into the Cottonwood Trees just to the east of the playground. There it spent its time ascending higher and higher with very quick movements and a lot of cocking of its tail. Pictures and perhaps a jumpy video will be added.
