Juvenile, seen in Marsh area at first bend on boardwalk. Observed by myself, my wife and a third observer. None of us have seen this bird before. Smallish, chicken size, olive/brown back with blueish green feathers on the wing tips. Yellow, 3 toed feet. It was standing on one leg when first observed. Then put both down to nibble at some vegetation or insect on the marsh surface. When it turned to move away, we noted white underfeathers at it's rear. I searched our copy of National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America 7th edition. That's where I noticed it was a Gallinule, but the description of the Juvenile Common Gallinule did not match what we observed. Searching EBird for Purple Gallinule, the photo of the Juvenile was exactly what we had observed today. I searched Gallinule on the internet as well, and found images of both the Common and Purple. When placed side by side, I had my wife look at them and she picked the Purple Gallinule as the bird we observed today. We did not hear any sounds from this bird.
