Unedited file. Bird heard and seen from trail #420, a crossover between the Multnomah and Wahkeena Falls Trails. The habitat was the interface between a more open, burned area and a greener, moist draw with lush vegetation. Recorded with Olympus LS-P4 Linear PCM Recorder.

Solid black glossy backed woodpecker with mostly black head, calling intermittently. Barred flanks. White hatchmarks along the folded outer primaries stood out. Beautiful bird. Right along the trail and calling frequently. My phone didn't quite pin the location as precisely as I would have liked, but the bird was hanging around one of the sections where a more burned / open section interfaces with a damp draw with a lush understory. The trail gets particularly narrow due to the lush vegetation. There was a really nice group of warblers in this same draw to pick through as well while listening to this bird call and tap away.
