Update 8/31 - As more photos came out from today, the consensus is Long-tailed. The underwing pattern and plumage captured in closer photos in better light rule out the initial ID of PAJA. The extent of white seen in the upper side of the wings leading to PAJA yesterday appeared to be just a result of distant poor photos as today's captured much more accurate information. - Initial Description - Initially spotted by Andrew. Initial call in the field was PAJA however some behavior/photos brought LTJA into the question. Once the photos were put on computer, showed more white shafts in the upper wing and gave a better idea of the structure of the bird. The broad base of the wings supports PAJA. Bird dropped in, rested in the water a bit, then caught a thermal up and rocketed east.
