Two adults, two immature, one chick. Today the little chick foraged by itself the entire time in the upper area of the corner of the pond in water only a few inches deep. Two Common Gallinules stayed near it. The adults and immature coots stayed in the middle area with about five other gallinules, and the whistling ducks continued to claim the end closest to the deeper water. Two children walked over with their dog, which immediately dashed to the water and scattered all of the birds. I was about to leave, so drove to the far side. (Could the dog be linked to the loss of immature and the chicks a few weeks ago?)
