***mega; basic plumage in heavy primary molt; 'lapponica' --underwings extensively white with only sparse barring; lacking the extensive barring typical of Alaskan/Siberian 'bauri', Also, the entire upper rump of the bird was white; another key feature of the nominate European subspecies; This bird has been present on South Beach since at least 21 June when discovered by Blair Nikula; Presumably the same individual was noted on Tuckernuck Island on the western end of Nantucket from 6-9 June; When the bird was first noted on South Beach it had not yet begun to molt; by today's sighting it is retaining only 3 old (and very worn) primaries, has completed molt of the inner 4 and is in the process of growing the rest; it has also molted inner primary coverts; image below showing progression of molt during the birds stay at South Beach;
