観察結果の詳細
Observed lifting off in active flapping flight from low elevation around the northwest side of Obsidian Butte. The four Magnificent Frigatebirds, two adult males and two juveniles, may have been perched roosting on rocks some place at the back of the butte. Fully dark black axillar feathers, without gray edging forming scalloping, wing length and shape and relative larger tail, absence of pale alar bar on upperwing, distinguish these two adult male Magnificent Frigatebirds from closely similar Great Frigatebird. The two juveniles are typical plumaged Magnificent Frigatebird without rusty or brownish markings about the white head and smaller diamond shaped white belly patches. Considering their sudden appearance at low elevation, different location, and presence of two adult males, I think this group is different from earlier morning group of nine Magnificent Frigatebird found at north terminus of Garst Road (only one adult male was in the first group photographed).
