Continuing third state record, seen distantly at first near beginning of trail, but I stayed long enough to get great scope views at the last bench. Bright rufous peep, slightly smaller than accompanying western sandpipers (I decided it was more horizontally compact, and possibly slightly shorter in stature). Large black centers of scapulars edged in bright rufous; bright white V visible on mantle. Cheek was evenly rufous and the crown was rufous streaked with black. This bird had a noticeable tan eyebrow and a contrastingly bright white throat, separated from the white belly by a speckled collar. A couple times I think I briefly noticed a lack of webbing between toes, but the feet were in water most of the time. Even in bad lighting, the stint was singled out by its noticeably slighter and shorter bill, slightly decurved. Seeing this species in breeding plumage has definitely been a goal at the top of my LIST! (Little branding code pin for you.)
