One of the few moments it wasn't preening
観察結果の詳細
Mainly observed perched on the benches that are beyond the closed section of the pier (36.970207, -121.913672). While I was there, it took off from its perch three times to do 2-3 laps around the end of the pier, to which it would always come back to one of the benches. The majority of the time I watched it preen and/or rest. Every 25 minutes it would either flap its wings, or hyperextend one wing to which would often lead to a quick flight around the pier. It was also seen spraying salt and regurgitating a green/yellow fluid. Not exactly sure what the secreted fluid was all about, (possibly a more fluid-like pellet?) but I highly doubt it is critically ill since it has been staking out at this location since November of 2018! I am curious if this is the same individual that was found in Half Moon Bay, San Mateo, which was last reported on eBird in December of 2017. Seems unlikely due to the eruption of RFBO's throughout California. I am not completely familiar with aging dark morph RFBO's, but one can assume that this is still a young individual due to it not being in alternate plumage during this time of year.
