Female or immature bird. Mystery hummer I had photographed and filed away to assess later but then forgot about. Now logging (as of 4/21/2021). That morning I staked out the bladderpod bush looking at hummers. It was a slow day overall but one interesting hummer briefly appeared. A shy bird who preferred to feed and perch low around the fringes or deep inside the bush. Silent. Green above, white to gray below and lacked any rufous tones. Lacked the iridescent spot in the center of the throat of an Anna's. What spots were present were small and faint gray on a dull white background. Overall appeared compact bodied in shape with wing tips about coequal with the tip of the tail. Too early for the earliest spring migrant Black-chinned and Calliope Hummers by 1-2 weeks. Lacks the peachy wash on the flanks of a Calliope and bill length relative to head width seems low (short) for a Black-chinned.
