Oystercatcher with white belly seen on rocky shoreline. I tried to observe as many field marks as possible and take photos of jehl scale items. My jehl score: upper tail coverts: 1 black with white mottlings (perhaps a 1.5), tail 1 (mainly black, trace of white, difficult to assess), chest 3 (ragged edge although not as ragged as I've observed in others), belly 6, under tail coverts 3-4 (looked pure white in field, but to be conservative put range), thighs 4, greater secondary coverts 3-4 (how does anyone score this accurately?), extent of white wing stripe 2 (extends to outer secondaries), underwing coverts 3 (mainly white), axillars 4, for a total of 30-32 -- low end of American range. Later sought assistance from Curtis Marantz. He scored the bird as follows: upper tail coverts 2, tail 0, chest 3, belly 6, undertail coverts 4, thighs 4, greater secondary coverts 3, extent of white wing stripe 1 (I learned that this is not about the length of the white coverts, but the presence of white in the secondary feathers), underwing coverts 3, axillars 4, for a total of 30. After receiving his score, I changed species from slash to American. Bird appears similar in photos and description to Naresh's bird in March 2020 at this location.
