Earlier counts have always felt way too conservative- this one is also conservative regarding the additional numbers of birds closely associating with singing males. After walking the area once both north and south early, then twice again with Ronnie under calm and comparatively quiet Sun morn conditions, I now feel certain of at least 15 males- and wouldn't scoff at a count of 30 total birds. Nearly every male observed during the walk had at least one and sometimes 2 birds closely associating with it. At one point, there were 4 birds, including a singing male in a large elm, with two other males singing close by to north and south. Five males could be heard singing from one stop, then 4 at another and 3 at two locations. The area with highest densities seems centered on an area of approx .5 miles, from a little north of the center of walked survey area toward south end.
