Adult male. In the field, with very good looks, appeared to be entirely black, with black back and wings with no white. The only white in the otherwise clean black was the white square at the base of the primaries, with white edging to the primaries extending outward. However, upon reviewing photos, there may be some trace of white in the wing. Ever so slight. However, the white trace appears only to be on the right side of the bird (reviewing some of my photos that show the left side of the bird, though not the clearest, show no white. Plus, the white is only distinct on two coverts (which are shorter and different age than the rest, so perhaps still growing in). Compared to photos of hybrid towhees, the slight white edging in my bird is a different shape: hybrids show distinct circular spots at the tips of feathers, while my bird shows very narrow edges to feathers, similar to what you would expect of a newly grown feather. The white visible in the shoulder I believe is a feather base. Photos of the left side reveal solid black with no white. This white could be due to some influence of introgression with SPTO, but whatever introgression has taken place has likely been several generations ago. This may fall within the range of EATO, with just some odd abnormalities? The bird never sang, but responded very strongly to EATO recording.
