Memory sketch done just after seeing bird; done in colored pencil.

Previously-reported male. For an hour, I had been scanning the frenzy of foraging gulls, mergansers, and goldeneyes through my binoculars thinking I’d never pick out the Barrow’s (if it was still here) when something different caught my eye. The first thing I noticed was the moon shaped crescent on the profile and then I noticed a black spur pointing towards the water breaking up the white underparts of the bird—I couldn’t believe it, especially since I was just looking with my binoculars but the birds are as close as they had been to the shore during the entire time I was looking, so I was happy I didn’t give up. The bird was seen on the southern side of the lake, about halfway between the marina and the beach entrance area. All I can say, is even without a scope, if you are persistent and keep on looking, this bird does stand out against the other goldeneyes but it does dive offen. I did a quick memory sketch when I got back to indoors.
