This gull’s bill was big and bulky and black. The end of the bill was bulbous. The top of bill was not completely parallel to bottom of bill for most of its length. The top of head was a pale dirty white. The eye was completely black. There was a small black/dark line going from back of to the back of head. The head of a standing still bird sloped slightly down from top of crown to bill while from crown to back of head appeared round. The chin until neck was same pale dirty white as rest of head. From upper breast through belly the coloration was dirty light gray. Upper mantle was light gray color. The lower mantle was a splotchy light brownish white. The lesser coverts were of the same coloration as the lower mantle. The median and greater coverts got progressively whiter. The feathers of the secondaries had light gray/brown on inside and white on the outside. The primaries were quite worn and appeared almost white with the outer 5 primaries missing part of the feathering around the shaft. The rump of the bird looked the same coloration as the lower mantle and the tail looked slightly worn but retained a grayish/brown coloration. The legs were a pinkish flesh coloration. Even though there were no gulls for direct comparison, being used to Laughing, Ring-billed, and Herring Gulls, we could tell this was a big gull. Accepted by TBRC
