Continuing on SE side of Valley Ford Estero Rd., south of the channel, in Marin. First found on 7/14/20 by L. Hug. Personally, my second attempt for this bird. Seen well on south side of channel, foraging with peep flock comprised of LESA, WESA, and two SESA! Eventually, as the group was looking at the two SESAs we lost track of the STSA and couldn't find it. It was later refound a few hours later in Sonoma on the west side of the road, north of the channel associating with the dowitcher flock. Great scope views and serviceable pictures. Medium-sized tall shorebird. Well-proportioned calidris that is often described as a mix between a dowitcher and Lesser Yellowlegs. Worn alternate plumaged adult. Small head, long neck, plump body, with yellow-green legs. Boldly pattered uppers with dark, neat, narrow barring on the breast, belly, and flanks. Rufous/chestnut in the crown, lores, and cheeks. Longish, dark, wilting bill. Wading and foraging in water up to its belly. It probes like a dowitcher but seems to be more methodical and deliberate in its probing/dabbing into the water. The bird was not seen in flight nor heard. Awesome bird!
