While in the field, I was puzzled by the call of this bird that sounded like a Sedge Wren. It was coming from a location where I had seen and heard a Sedge Wren with a Burroughs Audubon group in the past. So...I stopped to investigate more carefully, since eBird told me it would be rare to see or hear it this time of year. The song/call was coming from a low level and under lots of prairie grass. The bird would not come up for a visual ID, so I recorded its call so I could ask for assistance from others. In addition, I contacted Matt Gearheart, our eBird Reviewer for the region to ask for his input. Matt concluded that it was a Dickcissel because of the call and the time of year. Sedge Wrens usually appear in our area in April and then again later in July and August. Thank you for your assistance, Matt!
