観察結果の詳細
First observation at 1118. 1 counted on property. First seen foraging in the Betula occidentalis at the turnaround. Flew to a dead woody stub under an Alnus incana nearby and extracted some sort of large invertebrate from it, foraging about 30 cm above the ground. Flew back to the Betula, where it seemed to use a dead stub as an anvil. Remained there for another minute or two, then flew upstream into more shrubs. Did not vocalize. Habitat was a floodplain bench along the stream, dominated by a near monoculture of Bromus inermis, with wetter areas having Typha latifolia, Carex pellita, and C. atherodes. Very scattered Alnus incana, Salix exigua, the single Betula occidentalis, and some Prunus virginiana thickets within 30 m. Many seedling Salix exigua as well as Cornus sericea shrubs had been present but were killed by poorly done herbicide application several years ago. Detections (number 15-minute intervals in which the species was detected): 1 on property.
