We've gone back and forth on the identification of this bird for a few days. Based on opinions from the Brdbrain listserv indicating there is just a little too much rufous in the tail for it to be a La Sagra's as well as the sighting of an Ash-throated Flycatcher with indisputably clear photos on December 7th in the same patch of habitat, we are renaming this bird as an Ash-throated Flycatcher. Original post: We saw this bird while searching for the spindalis. Based on the photo, our impression is La Sagra's, since the bird's back is more brown/gray than olive, the tail doesn't have much rufous coloration, and it has a very light gray throat. The bird was in dense understory low to the ground (the photo was taken while the bird was perched maybe 2 feet off the ground). The bird did not vocalize. We unfortunately immediately wrote it off as a Great Crested Flycatcher and did not look at it further and are completely kicking ourselves for it now. I can't say whether it had a yellow belly since we didn't look thoroughly enough.
