A Variable Hawk sitting on ground, then taking off. The Red-backed or Variable Hawk (Geranoaetus polyosoma) is widespread in South America, and also occurs in the Falkland Islands. This subadult bird was sitting near the beach at Lafonia Point on Bleaker Island. It took off and was pursued by Magellanic Oystercatchers. Elevation: 3 m. Date added to IBC: February 10, 2019.
