Subtitle: Mud Volcanoes. Weather: Sunny, little wind Recordist note: "Geyser Valley is next to the valley where the NZ Government drilled bores to reach thermal steam which they use to generate electric power. When these bores were completed, the geysers in Geyser Valley ceased to erupt, but some new mud pots (or small volcanoes) developed later. These had such fascinating sounds that I taped them, thinking to add them to motion pictures later. The first one (12 seconds) is a very low frequency; the second (26 seconds) is higher and sounds like fat frying; the third (19 seconds) is low frequency and sounds like a bathtub draining out. NZ's main thermal area is at Rotorua, 50 miles north. Both areas are interesting if not as spectacular as Yellowstone.". Equipment Notes: 2-transistor, battery-operated, grounded-emitter pre-amplifier.
